Kurreem Williams of Mt. Vernon, NY named to Division III All-Region East Team

2013 Dec 30

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCA) posted the 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Region Teams. Midfielder, Kurreem Williams of Mt. Vernon, NY was one of a record three SUNYIT Men's Soccer Players were named to the Division III All-Region East Team.

The awards just continue to roll in for the 2013 SUNYIT Men's Soccer Team, which turned in the best record in program history at 16-2-2 while winning their 3rd NEAC Title in 4 seasons.

Senior goalkeeper Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y. / MLK) was named to the All-Region East 1st Team after a stupendous season that saw the 6-foot-3 stopper finish second in the nation in both save percentage (.908) and Goals-Against-Average (.40), while winning his second career NEAC Player of the Year Award, and a 4th-straight NEAC Goalkeeper of the Year Award. The selection is Faye's third overall, but first time on the All-Region 1st Team after being named a 3rd-Team selection in years past.

Making the all-region squad for the second time was Faye's fellow superstar-senior Diego Montaleza (New York, N.Y. / MLK). Montaleza was named to the All-Region 3rd Team after having his finest season at SUNYIT, during which the midfielder led the NEAC Conference in both goals (15) and assists (6), including an amazing 7 game-winning goals. Like Faye, Montaleza finished his career at SUNYIT as the all-time leader in just about every statistical category for his position.

Finally, the impactful play of Kurreem Williams (Mt. Vernon, N.Y. / TCI) earned him his first All-Region selection. After a -by comparison - quiet first two years following his transfer to SUNYIT from TCI, Williams had a breakout senior year. The powerful 6-foot-1 midfielder won the game between the penalty boxes for the Wildcats in 2013, earning his first selection to the NEAC All-Conference Team and a well-deserved All-Region 2nd Team distinction on Monday.

SUNYIT Head Coach Peterson Jerome, who won his 3rd NEAC Coach of the Year Award this season, had this to say in a statement following the release:

"I am extremely proud of these guys for their accomplishment. It speaks volumes about their on-field performance for us this year... to be recognized by other coaches in this great region truly says a lot about their contribution to the type of season we had. It has been an honor to coach those three guys over the last few years."
